Paul Terrell Henry
For Paul Terrell Henry, whose family and friends remember "his loving spirit," we spent the morning together at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
It was Family Day at the food bank and our job was to separate 50-lb. bags of potatoes into smaller bags for families. Working together with other families and groups, we helped sort enough for local families to prepare more than 3,000 portions of spuds.
I thought the kids would be all about this kindness opportunity -- potatoes ... pallets ... a huge warehouse with heavy machinery! But after handling a few slimy, rotten potatoes (don't worry, we had gloves on), they were less enthusiastic kindness champions than grossed out lollygaggers.
We talked through it and got back on track though. When they saw that huge load of bagged potatoes tip the scales at nearly 10,000 lbs. - it was all worth it.
