Interfaith Yoga Project
When we first heard about local yogi Candace Martin's Interfaith Yoga Project, we were amazed! What a beautiful way to bring people of different faiths together to foster understanding, friendship and unity in Central Florida!
Candace and her team of amazing volunteers coordinate yoga practices at various places of faith throughout the community. This month's was at our church, First Congregational Church of Winter Park, and it was the group's first to include children!
Best of all, each of the Interfaith Yoga Project's free practices include a service opportunity or “seva,” which is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service.” In ancient India, seva was believed to help one's spiritual growth and at the same time contribute to the improvement of a community. This time, the "sangha" was encouraged to bring donations such as diapers, grocery store gift cards and snacks for youth activities, which Candace delivered to Hope CommUnity Center.
We loved taking part in this beautiful afternoon of yoga and service, which centered on the theme "This Little Light of Mine." As Candace said, "These lights shine peace, love, joy, service, calm, inclusiveness, friendship, forgiveness. They shine boldly, gently, faithfully, powerfully, kindly and always. Let it shine!!"
